Biography

The Ills are Lubos Hodas (drums), Peter Berak (bass), Miro Luky (guitar) and Jakub Szatinsky (guitar).

Established in 2008 in Bratislava, The Ills have undergone an evolutionary journey. While the band's inception dates back to that year, it's important to note that the lineup has experienced changes over the years.

The Ills are being put into a post-rock box, however it is also shoegaze and elements of math-rock and prog-rock that can be heard in their songs. They are defined mostly by their live performances where their musical skills blend in an intense atmosphere and where the intimacy meets punk attitude and a hardcore drive.

With two guitars, bass, drums and no vocals, The Ills have played at various places from small pubs and cellars through art galleries and clubs to festivals such as Iceland Airwaves, Eurosonic Noorderslag, Pohoda, MENT, Incubate, Colours of Ostrava, DUNK!, Waves Vienna, Waves Bratislava, Wilsonic, Creepy Teepee or Rock For People.

Over the years they have played in Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, Poland, Croatia, Serbia, Macedonia, Czech Republic. They toured with Japanese band Tricot and have shared stages with the likes of And So I Watch You From Afar, God Is An Astronaut, Russian Circles, Rosetta and many others.

The Ills have so far released five albums: To Wish Impossible Things (2010), Splendor (2012), Zoya (2014), Ornamental or Mental (2016), Disco Volante / Mt. Average (2019).

Their songs were praised and played by the likes of Kevin Cole of KEXP, Dan Hegarty of RTÉ 2fm, Vic Galloway of BBC Radio Scotland, Klaus Fiehe of WDR 1 Live and Byte_FM. Moreover the band's music and live performances impressed media like Drowned In Sound, Clash, DIY, Gigwise, Visions, Focus Knack, IQ Magazine, Arctic Drones and many others.

Since 2021, The Ills have solidified their current formation, and within this renewed constellation, they've meticulously worked on entirely new material. On Februrary 29,

The Ills released a new single “I Was Riding My Bike To Work When I Realized I Have No Job”. Their upcoming album “Life Is Random” will be released in May 2024.
